Behind the scenes of ‘The Sailor Girl’
The Sailor Girl is set in Auckland, New Zealand… a city that regularly gets listed in the Top Ten most livable cities in the world. Straddling two natural harbours (the Waitemata and Manukau), Auckland has a wealth of coastline and beaches.
Here are some of my own photos of the places I refer to in The Sailor Girl.

Westhaven Marina in Auckland is one of the largest marinas in the Southern Hemisphere.
Just beyond the Waitemata Harbour lies the Hauraki Gulf – a sailing paradise. The hill in the background is actually a dormant volcanic island, named “Rangitoto”. The circular island looks almost identical from all angles, and is visible from many parts of Auckland.
Beautiful Te Kouma harbour in the Coromandel Peninsula.
Mission Bay beach is a popular beach near central Auckland. And look, there’s Rangitoto again in the background!
I can’t show you too many more photos without revealing the plot… you’ll have to imagine just how beautiful the other scenes and landscapes are in The Sailor Girl!
